MOUNT MERU TREK

Overview of Mount Meru

Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain after Mount Kilimanjaro. At the height of 4566 meters, mount Meru is one of Africa’s highest peaks. Mount Meru is inside Arusha national park, about 70 km west of Mount Kilimanjaro. Unlike Mount Kilimanjaro which has many routes to the summit, Mount Meru has only one route from starting gate to the summit.

Mount Meru has two peaks, the first peak is called Socialist Peak (4566 meters). The Socialist Peak is the summit. Another peak is called Little Meru, which is 3801 meters high. When you climb Mount Meru you will have the option of reaching both the summit.

Mount Meru offers a challenging and rewarding trekking experience. Most people think of Mount Meru as only good for getting people ready to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, however, Mount Meru stands alone as a unique, challenging, and beautiful experience even when you are not preparing yourself for Mount Kilimanjaro.

There is a lot more wildlife to be seen and the sense of remoteness and solitude is much stronger than on Mount Kilimanjaro.
